BIG BOY
Big Boy was previously jumped excessively and constantly given tranquilizers by his trainer, who feared him. This ended up causing a major injury to his left stifle. Instead of taking time and effort to tend to it, they neglected him for five months. They hid and underfed him while waiting for the insurance company to pay his owners. He was eventually sent to slaughter, thankfully, the hired hauler was actually a friend of Annette's. She called her immediately, telling her they had a very large horse that would be put down if he wasn’t saved. As he exited the trailer, Big Boy was quite a sight as although he was a very tall horse, he was skin and bones. The veterinarian who examined him deemed him approximately 500 pounds underweight. It was shocking to Annette as his feed card was placed in his trailer, showing that he had only been fed two flakes of hay daily, which for a 19-hand horse was way too little to sustain his weight. This horse had been starved! Annette took it upon herself to get Big Boy back to a healthy weight, even if it meant he would never jump again. She nursed him back to health with Rapid Response, and in a few months, he fully recovered - including his injury! She also gave him a beautiful new name, “Grand Noir” or “Big Boy” for his barn nickname.
Big Boy returned back to the show ring at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center - winning his class. Little did the Paradise Valley family know his old trainer, who had given up on him, witnessed his glorious return. Big Boy became a Grand Prix jumper, a wondrous success, especially with all the trials he had gone through before. Big Boy has now been with PVR for the past fifteen years and is the most gentle and loving giant with the biggest heart.
